Louisiana Fortified Roof Tax Credit Program

How it works

The Louisiana FORTIFIED Roof Tax Credit is a state income tax credit for roof upgrades certified by the Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety (IBHS). According to the Department of Revenue, the program provides a tax credit for 100% of qualified expenses for roofs upgraded to IBHS standards.

The current application period described by the department runs from January 1, 2026 through June 30, 2026, for roof upgrades certified in 2025. Homeowners whose upgraded roofs receive certification in 2025 can apply through the Louisiana Taxpayer Access Point (LaTAP) portal starting January 1, 2027.

What the money covers

The credit applies to qualified expenses for the purchase and installation of a fortified roof. State law excludes permit, inspection, and other similar costs necessary to obtain IBHS certification from qualified expenses.

Amounts and matching

The credit equals the total amount of qualified expenses paid by the resident taxpayer and certified by IBHS, up to $10,000 per resident taxpayer. The program has a statewide annual cap of $10 million, and credits are issued first-come, first-served.

How to apply

The department says to apply through LaTAP during the applicable application period. The official notice says roof upgrades certified in 2025 are the basis for the 2026 application window.

The official notice says the application window for the current cycle is January 1, 2026 through June 30, 2026. Homeowners whose roofs are certified in 2025 can apply starting January 1, 2027.
