How it works

Covington’s Homeowner Repair Program is a city housing-repair grant program funded through the City’s annual federal housing allocations. The city says the program provides grants to help with urgent repairs on owner-occupied homes in Covington, and the repairs are meant to address conditions that threaten the health or safety of the people living there.

What the money covers

The City’s program page says eligible repairs can include certain electrical problems, plumbing issues, malfunctioning air conditioners and furnaces, leaky roofs, and wheelchair ramps. A later city news release adds examples such as actively leaking roofs, fallen or damaged gutters and downspouts, water and sewer line repairs, water heaters, hazardous or inoperable electrical outlets and fuse systems, specific accessibility modifications, and lead-based paint hazards identified by the Northern Kentucky Health Department.

Amounts and payment

The headline amount is up to $10,000 per grant. A city news article states payment is made by the City directly to the contractor or repair person.

How to apply

Applicants must apply online through the city’s application portal and must create an account before applying. The city says staff can help residents access or complete the application.

Timing and deadlines

The program is currently accepting applications for Program Year 2026-2027, and the city says applications are reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis while funding remains available.
