Program details

How it works

The City of Augusta’s Neighborhood Revitalization Program gives qualifying properties a property-tax rebate based on eligible improvement value. The plan says residential projects can receive a 95% tax rebate for a limited number of years.

What the money covers

The official plan is a broad redevelopment incentive, not a wildfire-specific grant. It applies to qualifying improvements that meet local zoning, building, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire code requirements.

Amounts and matching

  • Residential: at least $5,000 or 10% of the assessed valuation of the building(s) on the property, whichever is higher.
  • Residential rebate period: up to 5 years for new construction in a subdivision, and up to 10 years for infill development and rehabilitation projects.
  • Rebate rate: 95% of eligible tax value.
  • Non-residential rules also exist, but this list is focused on homeowner programs.

How to apply

The plan says no application is processed until the interlocal agreement is approved by the Kansas Attorney General, filed with the Secretary of State, and filed with the Butler County Register of Deeds. It also says permits must be approved before construction starts, and a rebate application must be filed within 60 days of the building permit in the version shown in the official agenda packet.

Timing and deadlines

The plan in the official packet states construction must begin on or after January 1, 2020. The agenda packet is the official source found here, but homeowners should verify the city’s current plan before relying on the 2020/2023 dates, because the rebate program is based on an adopted plan that can be amended.
