Program details

How it works

The Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) provides energy conservation measures to reduce utility bills for low-income Hoosiers across the state. The official page says households apply through a Local Service Provider.

What the money covers

After a home is deemed eligible, a state-trained energy auditor performs a free comprehensive energy audit. The audit determines which upgrades will maximize energy savings, and state-trained contractors then install the prescribed upgrades at no cost to the client.

How to apply

  • Contact the Local Service Provider for your county.
  • The provider checks income eligibility.
  • If eligible, the household is placed on a wait list.
  • When the home reaches the top of the wait list, an auditor visits the home.
  • Contractors then complete the work.

Timing and deadlines

The page reviewed does not give a deadline. It says eligible clients may be placed on a wait list before work begins.
