How it works

Montgomery County received an Owner Occupied Rehabilitation grant from the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs (OCRA) to set up a local homeowner repair program. The county’s program is intended to directly fund repairs on owner-occupied homes for low- to moderate-income households.

What the money covers

The official county and state notices say eligible repairs include roof repair or replacement, heating and cooling replacement, lighting and electrical upgrades, water heater replacement, ADA accessibility improvements, radon remediation, HVAC systems, and exterior accessibility improvements such as ramps and handrails. The county notice also says each home may receive up to $25,000 in improvements.

Amounts and matching

The county was awarded $450,000 for the program. The county’s contractor notice says homes are bid individually and that each home may receive up to $25,000. The official notices do not state a homeowner match requirement.

How to apply

The county’s official notices point homeowners and contractors to the local program administrator and the county’s bidder process, but they do not provide a full homeowner application procedure on the page we found. The county notice says to contact Kristine Krueger for questions or additional details, and the contractor notice says the first group of homes was available for bid.
