Program details
How it works
CHIP 2.0 is the city’s expansion of the Columbus Housing Improvement Program for households above the original CHIP income cap. The city says ARa handles the application process, scoring, construction job scoping, contractor procurement, final inspection, payment documentation, and lien placement.
What the money covers
Eligible improvements include roof repairs or replacements, HVAC repairs or replacements, ADA modifications up to the home’s threshold, and water heater replacements. Radon testing and mitigation are also available to all selected homeowners.
Amounts and matching
The maximum award is $20,000 per home. The page does not state a matching requirement.
How to apply
Applications are online only. The city says awards are first come, first served until program funds are allocated.
Timing and deadlines
The city’s launch announcement says CHIP 2.0 is open for applications and concludes on December 15, 2026. The main CHIP page also states that funds will continue to be expended until the program maximum is reached or December 15, 2026, whichever occurs first.
Homeowner note
This is a general home-improvement resilience program rather than a disaster-specific program, but it can pay for repairs that improve a home’s resistance to damage and loss.
