Wildfire mitigation chipper / fuel-reduction services

How it works

The City of Boise’s wildfire mitigation team has used grant funding and city neighborhood reinvestment funding to provide wildfire-risk reduction projects in Boise’s wildland-urban interface. The official annual report says these efforts included a roaming wood chipper and other mitigation activities in several neighborhoods.

What the service covers

The source specifically lists:

• A home ignition zone training class for neighborhood leaders and firefighters
• A roaming chipper in Warm Springs Mesa, Boise Heights, Central Foothills, Highlands, and East Foothills neighborhoods
• Briarhill/Quail Ridge goat grazing
• Military Reserve fuel reduction and restoration
• Oregon Trail/Homestead Rim sagebrush thinning

The report says residents participated and that the activities removed woody materials within defensible space.

Amounts and matching

This is described as a free or grant-funded service, not a homeowner reimbursement program. The source does not state a dollar value or matching requirement.
