General Assistance

Marshall County Veterans Affairs · County program

One-time loan up to $300 for rent or the current month’s utility bill.

Marshall County offers a one-time emergency assistance loan for eligible low-income residents, mainly for rent or utility bills. It is not a home-hardening program, but it is the only county-level homeowner assistance program I found on an official Marshall County page.

Program details

How it works

Marshall County says General Assistance is a county-funded emergency program for eligible low-income residents of Marshall County. Assistance is granted as a loan, and applicants must complete an application and provide supporting documentation. The county says funds are released through the county payable process after approval.

What the money covers

The official page lists only:

  • Partial rent payment, with an eviction notice required
  • Current utility bill, with a disconnect notice required

Amounts and matching

The application page says the maximum amount is a one-time payment of $300 for rent or the current month’s utility bill.

How to apply

Applicants must call the county office for an application and then submit the completed application with required verification. The county lists required documentation including photo ID, 60 days of pay stubs for working household members, 60 days of bank statements, proof of income, and other situation-specific documents.

Timing and deadlines

The county says completed applications received after the 10th of the month are held for consideration for the next application deadline. Funds are released following the normal county payable schedule and Board of Supervisors approval at a regular board meeting.
