Program details
How it works
The County of Kauaʻi, in partnership with the Hawaiʻi Wildfire Management Organization (HWMO), offers free one-hour educational wildfire home assessments for residential properties through December 31, 2026. During the assessment, trained County home assessors walk around the property with the homeowner, identify wildfire risks, answer questions, and provide personalized recommendations to help the homeowner better prepare for wildfire.
The County emphasizes that this is a voluntary educational service, not a code inspection.
What the service covers
The County’s launch notice says the assessment considers:
- the area immediately surrounding the home
- vegetation management
- home hardening measures to reduce ember intrusion
- property access and evacuation considerations
- other site-specific wildfire risks
