Walker County Fire Rescue Free Smoke Alarm Program

How it works

Walker County Fire Rescue runs a free smoke alarm installation program for county residents. A firefighter schedules a home visit, completes a home safety survey, identifies hazards, and installs smoke alarms at no charge. The county says this is a community service done with the American Red Cross of Northwest Georgia.

What the service covers

The official page says the program provides smoke alarms and installs them in the home. It also says the team will check the house for hazards during the visit. The county’s older program announcement says special smoke alarms for hearing-impaired residents are available, and that alarms are installed on a first-come, first-served basis when inventory is available.

Amounts and matching

This is a free service, so there is no homeowner payment, match, reimbursement amount, or grant ceiling stated.

How to apply

Call 706-539-1255 ext. 1 to schedule a firefighter visit and alarm installation. The county’s earlier announcement also directed residents to press #2 for the Fire Marshal’s office.

Timing and availability

The current official page does not list an application deadline. Availability depends on program inventory and scheduling. The county has previously said residents may be placed on a waiting list if alarms run out, but that detail comes from an earlier announcement rather than the current page.
