How it works

Sarasota County’s Stormwater Environmental Utility Incentive Rebate Program reimburses homeowners after they complete approved projects that improve stormwater infiltration and water quality. The county says applications are accepted annually from October 1 through June 1 so work can be finished and reimbursed within the county fiscal year.

What the money covers

The county lists eligible practices such as rain gardens, treatment swales, modified downspouts, downspout planters, and replacing impervious surfaces with pervious surfaces for driveways and sidewalks. The county says homeowners can receive rebates for up to two projects per property.

Amounts and matching

The official page does not state a standard rebate percentage for all projects. It does state that if the total project cost equals a maximum rebate of $5,000, the applicant must obtain three quotes for similar goods and services.

How to apply

Applicants must submit an online application, then schedule a pre-application meeting with the NEST program coordinator. If the site is suitable, the homeowner must complete a Rebate and Maintenance Commitment form and provide an itemized budget or quotes. If the application is approved, the coordinator issues a preliminary Project Approval Notice showing the approved rebate amount.

Timing and deadlines

Projects must be completed and rebate requests submitted by September 1 of the qualifying year. Sarasota County verifies completion through site visits and photographs. Items purchased or work completed before an approved application and signed Rebate and Maintenance Commitment form are not eligible for reimbursement.

Other notes

The county says reducing impervious area may also reduce a property’s annual stormwater assessment.
