Program details
How it works
This program helps qualified elderly and disabled residents living in Miami-Dade County install hurricane shutters they already received from the county. It is offered during hurricane season, from June 1 through November 30.
Before hurricane season, residents receive a phone call to confirm whether assistance will be needed, and a crew visits the home for an inspection. When a storm is approaching, a crew of two employees installs the shutters after an evacuation order is issued in the resident’s area.
The program does not provide new shutters. It only provides help installing existing shutters received from Miami-Dade County.
What the service covers
- Installation of existing hurricane shutters
Timing and deadlines
- Service is available only during hurricane season (June 1-November 30)
- Installation occurs after an evacuation order is issued in the resident’s area
