Program details

How it works

The county’s Disaster Strategy provides assistance to households following a disaster declared by Executive Order of the President of the United States or the Governor of Florida. It is only implemented in the event of a disaster, using SHIP funds not yet encumbered or additional disaster funds from Florida Housing Finance Corporation.

What the money covers

SHIP disaster funds may be used for:

  1. purchase of emergency supplies for eligible households to weatherproof damaged homes,
  2. interim repairs to avoid further damage,
  3. tree and debris removal required to make the housing unit habitable,
  4. construction of wells or repair of existing wells where public water is not available,
  5. payment of insurance deductibles for rehabilitation of homes covered under homeowners’ insurance policies,
  6. temporary rental assistance for renter households that have experienced temporary financial hardship and are at risk of eviction.

Amounts and repayment
