Building Safety Inspection Program (BSIP)

How it works

The City of Miramar says the Building Safety Inspection Program (BSIP) is a Broward County-mandated program established by the Board of Rules and Appeals to ensure aging buildings remain structurally and electrically safe.

What the service covers

The city says applicable buildings must undergo periodic inspections performed by a Florida Licensed Professional Engineer or Registered Architect.

Inspection and compliance rules

• Property owners receive a Notice of Required Inspection.
• Inspection reports must be submitted within 180 days.
• Recertification is required every 10 years thereafter.
• If deficiencies are found, repairs must be completed within 180 days unless otherwise directed.
• A final certification report is required after repairs are completed.

Fees

The city says a review fee is required at submittal, and the FAQ lists a $350 submission fee.

Timing and deadlines

• Reports are reviewed in about four to six weeks.
• If a submission is not made within 90 days, extensions must be requested in writing; otherwise code enforcement may begin.

Notes for homeowners

This is primarily a safety certification and inspection program, not a funding program. It can still matter to homeowners because it identifies structural and electrical issues and may trigger repair work.
