Community Conservation Cost-Share Program

How it works

The Sussex Conservation District board approved a Community Conservation Cost-Share Program for FY26. The program is funded through the Conservation Cost-Share Program administered by the Sussex Conservation District.

What the money covers

The program is intended to increase participation of landowners and community organizations/associations in practices that improve water quality and habitat throughout Sussex County. Eligible practices listed by the district include rain gardens, stormwater facility enhancements, rainwater harvesting, constructed wetlands, conservation landscaping, urban nutrient management (Livable Lawns), tree plantings, urban forest buffers, and other practices approved by the district.

Amounts and matching

In FY26, the program reimburses 75% of project cost with a maximum cost-share payment of $7,500 per project.

How to apply

Applications are accepted throughout the year and considered by the Board of Supervisors. The district encourages applicants to contact staff before applying because staff can provide technical assistance for design and for completing the application. Payments are made after approved invoices are submitted for eligible completed work.
