Wind and Wildfire Home Protection Mitigation Program

How it works

The Department of Local Affairs says this program is an extension of the State of Colorado Housing Recovery Program and offers two ways to fund disaster mitigation measures, described as home hardening. Homeowners may seek either:

• Up to $30,000 total, structured as up to a $5,000 grant plus up to a $25,000 forgivable or traditional loan, depending on income and rebuilding gap.
• Up to a $5,000 grant only, with no income or rebuilding-gap test.

The state says the grant-only category has a total award cap of $2,000,000.

What the money covers

The official notice says eligible mitigation measures are included in rebuild or renovation estimates and are paid up to the listed line-item amount, based on completed measures. The page explicitly lists fire-resistant skirting with a maximum line-item amount of $5,000. It also says the awards are in addition to any Housing Recovery Program award.

Amounts and matching

• Up to $30,000 per home total for the combined grant/loan option.
• Up to $5,000 per home for the grant-only option.

How to apply

There are two application paths:

• For up to $30,000: complete the Housing Recovery Program application and include eligible mitigation measures and costs.
• For up to $5,000 only: complete the short Wind and Wildfire Protection Mitigation Program application.

For the larger award, the page says applicants must provide income documentation, insurance documentation, rebuild and rehabilitation funding gap information, and general contractor/builder or vendor proposals or invoices listing mitigation items and costs.
