Program details
How it works
Residential customers who receive a utility bill from the City and County of Broomfield can save money by installing qualifying water-efficient devices and submitting a rebate application. The program is aligned with Denver Water’s rebate program and uses the same qualifying purchases. Rebates are available on a first-come, first-served basis subject to available funds.
To start, the homeowner must review the rebate rules, make an eligible purchase, and submit the Residential Rebate Application within 90 days of the purchase date. Applications can be completed electronically through the online Residential Rebate Application.
What the money covers
The page lists several qualifying purchases:
- Rotary nozzles
- WaterSense-certified weather-based smart controllers
- Whole home water monitoring systems with leak detection and automatic shut-off
- Rain barrels
For the whole-home monitoring system, eligible products must continuously monitor indoor and outdoor water consumption, notify the user if an unexpected condition occurs, and include an integrated automatic shut-off valve that can react independently as needed.
For weather-based smart controllers, the page says to find eligible products on the EPA WaterSense qualifying model list. It also notes that irrigation systems must not operate between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Amounts and matching
- Rotary nozzles: $3 per nozzle, with a minimum purchase of 10 and a maximum of 100 nozzles; one-time rebate per property.
- Weather-based smart controllers: rebate covers the purchase price up to $150; taxes and installation fees are excluded.
- Whole home water monitoring system: 50% of purchase price, up to $300; one per residence.
- Rain barrels: up to $50; limit of two every five years at the same residence.
The page also states that eligibility is limited to once every 10 years per item per property, with specific limits for each device type.
How to apply
Applications must be submitted with a valid sales receipt and required details. Completed applications can be submitted by email to conservation@broomfield.org or mailed to Broomfield Water Conservation Rebates, City and County of Broomfield, One DesCombes Drive, Broomfield, CO 80020.
Timing and deadlines
- Rebates are available only while funds last.
- Applications must be submitted within 90 days of purchase; no exceptions.
- Failure to cash rebate checks within 90 days voids the rebate.
- Duplicate receipts without barcodes will not be accepted.
Important notes
Rebates are issued as credits on the water bill, with any remaining credits carrying forward to future bills. For recent home sellers or rental property owners, rebates are provided as checks instead. Customers may be required to allow the City and County of Broomfield to verify installation. The page also says new construction or homes less than one year old are not eligible, and apartments or condominiums should contact their management office to obtain a water account number for eligibility.
