Program details

How it works

Arkansas offers a homestead property tax credit that reduces property taxes on a qualifying principal residence. The state page says the credit is up to $500 per year, and that beginning with the 2026 tax bills the General Assembly authorized an increase up to $600.

What the money covers

This is a tax credit against the homestead property tax bill. It is not a reimbursement program for repairs, mitigation, or disaster hardening work.

Timing and deadlines

The credit is claimed through the county assessor’s office. The state page does not give a separate statewide filing deadline.

Important notes

The homestead may be owned by a revocable or irrevocable trust. The page also says a person may qualify if they are the record owner, a buyer under a recorded sales contract, or a person holding a recorded life estate. Nursing home or retirement center residents who still own their residence may continue to qualify under certain circumstances.
