How it works

Decatur Utilities and TVA EnergyRight say the Residential Services Program helps homeowners make smart decisions about home energy use and improve efficiency. The page highlights several services: home energy evaluations with a Home Energy Advisor, access to TVA-approved contractors, financing for qualifying upgrades, and a free DIY Home Energy Assessment.

What the money covers

The page says qualifying Decatur Utilities customers can use the loan to finance:

  • a new, qualified heat pump system, or
  • other qualifying energy efficiency measures.

It does not provide a wildfire-hardening-specific list of measures. The page points homeowners to TVA-approved contractors in the Quality Contractor Network to complete installation of eligible work.

Amounts and terms

The page states:

  • loan terms up to 10 years
  • interest rate of 8%
  • minimum loan amount of $2,500
  • maximum loan amount of $20,000
  • monthly loan payments are billed on the customer’s electric bill

The public page also says the loan approval number can be given to a TVA participating Quality Contractor Network member, who completes the installation and submits the project for direct funding of installation costs. Loan documents are created after installation and can be signed electronically.

How to apply

Homeowners are instructed to:

  1. Visit EnergyRight online at the link provided on the page, or call 1-855-237-2673.
  2. Enter their ZIP code and select Decatur Utilities as the power company.
  3. Create an account.
  4. Click “Apply for Financing.”
  5. Complete the application and upload a driver’s license and most recent utility bill.
  6. Wait for approval or denial by email within 48 hours.
  7. If approved, choose a TVA-approved contractor from the Quality Contractor Network.
  8. After installation, the contractor submits the installation information to EnergyRight.
  9. Sign the loan documents electronically.
  10. The contractor is paid, and the monthly loan installment is then billed on the regular Decatur Utilities electric bill.

Timing and deadlines

The page says the process details are “As of 8/1/24” and are subject to change. No application deadline is stated on the page.
