Critical Repair Program

How it works

The City of Birmingham’s Department of Community Development will soon open applications for the Critical Repair Program. The city says the program will assist 100 eligible residents with urgent home repairs.

What the money covers

The page specifically says the repairs may include:

• Roofing
• Plumbing
• Electrical needs

Amounts and matching

Eligible residents may receive up to $30,000 in assistance. The page does not mention any homeowner match requirement.

How to apply

The city says interested applicants are strongly encouraged to attend one of the information sessions before applying. For more information and to register for an information session, the city directs residents to www.criticalrepairbham.com or to call 205-581-3117.

Informational sessions

The page lists three sessions:

• Virtual session: Thursday, July 31 at 3 p.m. on WebEx
• In-person session: Thursday, Aug. 7, 5:30–6:30 p.m. at Birmingham CrossPlex, 2340 CrossPlex Blvd.
• In-person session: Thursday, Aug. 14, 5:30–6:30 p.m. at Fountain Heights Recreation Center, 1101 15th Ave N.

The page also says applicants should not bring any documents to the sessions because the events are for informational purposes only.

Timing and deadlines

Applications will be open for two days only: September 4–5, 2025. The page does not state a later application deadline beyond that window.
